The short version
Your screenshots and extracted text never leave your device. We only collect anonymous crash reports and aggregate usage stats (no content, no queries). The free version shows ads through Google AdMob. Purchases go through RevenueCat.
Overview
SnapKeep ("we", "our", or "the app") is an offline-first screenshot organizer. Your screenshots and their extracted text never leave your device. This policy explains what limited data we do collect and why.
Data we collect
1. No screenshot content is ever uploaded
All image processing (OCR text extraction) runs entirely on your device using Google ML Kit. Your screenshots, extracted text, notes, search queries, and category names are never transmitted to any server, including ours.
2. Analytics (Firebase Analytics)
We use Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregate usage events such as:
- App opens and screen views
- Feature interactions (for example screenshot saved, reminder set, search performed, but never the content of searches or screenshots)
- Purchase events (that a purchase happened, not payment details)
- Crash and ANR counts
Analytics is disabled entirely in debug builds. We never log screenshot images, extracted text, notes, search queries, or any document content.
3. Crash reporting (Firebase Crashlytics and Sentry)
When the app crashes, Crashlytics sends an anonymous crash report containing the stack trace, device model, Android version, and app version. No screenshot or user-generated content is included. Crash reporting is disabled in debug builds.
We also use Sentry for the same purpose: technical error reports (stack trace, device model, OS and app version). Sentry never receives screenshot images, extracted text, notes, or search queries. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version displays ads served by Google AdMob. Google may use your device's advertising ID to show relevant ads. You can opt out in your Android device's ads settings. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.
5. In-app purchases (RevenueCat)
Premium is a one-time purchase handled by RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives your Google Play purchase receipt to verify that you own Premium. No screenshot content is shared. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy for details.
6. Translation (Google ML Kit, optional)
If you turn on translation, SnapKeep downloads an offline language pack from Google once. Your text is not part of that download, and translation runs on your device.
7. Local storage
SnapKeep stores the following data locally on your device only:
- Screenshot image URIs (pointers to images in your photo library)
- OCR-extracted text
- Your notes and category assignments
- Reminder times
- App preferences and Premium status cache
This data is stored in the app's private storage and is removed when you uninstall the app.
Data we do not collect
- Screenshots or images
- OCR or extracted text
- Notes or document content
- Search queries
- Category names or contents
- Any personally identifiable information beyond what Google Play provides for purchase verification
